Take me out to the ball game!
So, my man Dave Beer asks me last week if I would like to have our weekly Teachers activity at a Keizer Volcanos baseball game (the single A farm team for the San Francisco Giants) and further more, he has sponsor tickets that come with an open tab at the snack bar-- we're talking about all the hot dogs and garlic fries you can eat! After pretending to think about it for a moment, I said, "Yes!" And what a night for baseball it was. A beautiful summer evening, an entertaining ball game, and the snack bar turned into your personal buffet. I was crying tears of joy before the first pitch!
This was also the first time I was able to shoot a baseball game. There is definitely a steep learning curve that I was able to appreciate, but not begin to climb. It would be fun to give it a few more tries, but only if the food it free...
Oh, by the way, the Volcanos have this really freaky looking mascot called Crater that looks like a monster from a 10 year old's nightmare. For some reason, the team thinks it makes for entertaining seventh-inning-stretch material to have the mascot chase a ten year old around the bases... There's no way that kid didn't wake up screaming that night!
Finally, I was pretty set on snagging a foul ball during the game, but by the eighth inning the prospects were looking pretty slim. In a desperation move, I convinced the third-base-line ball boy to steal a ball for me from the dugout. Like a trooper, he set me up with the ball that Dave is holding in the first picture. It's even autographed by a bunch of players I don't know. That kid was awesome! What's more, he can hock a mean loogie!
